Student leadership

School captains and Sports captains

School captains are nominated and elected by their peers at the beginning of each year. School captains are excellent role models who have a good attitude to learning and school life. They attend school, wear their uniform, model appropriate behaviours and support others to follow the school student expectations. A school captain and vice captain are elected from the senior cohort of students who are in their final year of schooling. School captains represent the school at special events, school activities and functions and play a role in school assembly.

Three students (boys and girls) are nominated and elected as sports captains in a process involving students in the senior school. The sports captains have specific roles and responsibilities. Part of their role is to uphold the good name of Claremont special school and to be role models to other students. One of the sports captains will be responsible for sports in the middle school. Sports captains serve as a vital link in the communication chain necessary for the success of the sports program.

The responsibilities of sports captains include:

  • encouraging players to cooperate with each other, to think together, and to be together as proud representatives of Claremont special school

  • serving as an example of good sportsmanship for team members

  •  being a role model at all times both on and off the field

  • wearing the appropriate sports uniform which will be provided by the school

  • generating team spirit and respect for all players especially towards girls in the teams

  • cheering team members on and encouraging others to do so and conducting themselves in accordance to those rules

  • ensuring that team members assist other participants in setting up and taking down equipment

  • encouraging a sense of belonging, responsibility and partnership among all players

  • being pro-active in playground issues

  • being respectful and courteous to teams from other schools.
